Leslie Claire is a visual artist whose practice spans photography, digital image-making, illustration, and constructed 3D environments. Her engagement with visual art began with childhood art classes and continued through independent study, photography, and design. As an undergraduate at Vanderbilt University, she received a Best in Show award in a juried exhibition/competition for a hand-colored photograph.
In 1990, Claire began teaching herself the emerging tools of computer graphics through books, seminars, and experimentation. That exploration developed alongside a decades-long professional career in graphic design, art direction, photography, illustration, and publishing. Her current work extends that history through digital compositing and 3D construction, combining techniques accumulated across different periods of her practice.
Color and light are central to her work, as are the human figure and the transformation of ordinary space into something psychological, symbolic, or imagined. Her recent bodies of work explore visibility, individuality, and human connection through environments that move freely between the recognizable and the impossible.
